The
Wapiti Ranch is located 11 miles southwest of Tinnie, New Mexico,
and borders the famous Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation for 3 1/2
miles. It consists of 8,000 acres, with peaks to 7,000 feet. The topography
of the land is steep hills and canyons, with open ridge tops and an
abundance of water. You will find Pinon trees and Ponderosa Pine trees,
with juniper covering the terrain.
A
variety of wildlife can be found on the Ranch, including elk, mule
deer, turkey, black bear.
The Wapiti Ranch is under new ownership as of 2002, and was purchased
from the family of famous movie star Joel McCrea, who owned it for
17 years. It was the old Gibson Ranch for 65 years prior to that time.
This is the first time this ranch has been used for private land hunts.
